CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services)

If you feel that you cannot wait, call the number above and ask to speak with an on-call counselor​ or walk in to CAPS every Monday-Friday from 8:30-4:30

After business hours, students should call 434-243-5150 to connect with our afterhours service, Fonemed. Crisis services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Maxine Platzer Lynn Women's Center
The Women's Center counseling services include free, confidential group therapy and individual therapy (the Women's Center does not have crisis providers)

All clients over the age of 18 are welcome

Provides referrals to therapists in Charlottesville and guidance for seeking a therapist outside of Charlottesville

Timely Care
Timely Care provides 12 free scheduled telehealth counseling sessions with a licensed mental health provider (Timely Care also provides psychiatric care)

Students can connect with a mental health professional at any time of the day by phone or video

Students can use the Talknow service to discuss any level of concerns

Region Ten
Region Ten services include crisis services, outpatient therapy services, case management services, medical services, substance use services, and prevention services

Crisis services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and include rapid telephone consultation and in-person crisis assessments

Outpatient therapy services are provided for individuals who have substance use, mental health, and/or developmental disability concerns

Sheila C. Johnson Center For Clinical Psychological Services
The Sheila C. Johnson Center in the School of Education and Human Development offers evidence based treatment for a variety of psychological problems such as depression, generalized anxiety and panic, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), trauma-based problems, and more

The Sheila C. Johnson Center is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30-5:30 and Friday from 8:30-5:00

Mary D. Ainsworth Psychological Clinic
The Mary D. Ainsworth Psychological Clinic is sponsored by the Department of Psychology's Clinical Training Program and provides free confidential psychological services. The Ainsworth Clinic is staffed by clinical faculty members and supervised graduate student therapists.

The clinic also offers testing, and therapy services for conditions such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, etc.

If interested, there is a phone intake screening because the clinic is a training clinic ​

Frank C. McCue Center
The Frank C. McCue center provides mental health services for UVA athletes

Offers sports psychologists to provide mental health support for conditions such as depression and anxiety

All student-athletes are assigned a counselor at the beginning of their tenure at the University. To schedule an appointment, call, text, or email your individual counselor.

If you’d prefer to meet with a different counselor, simply contact them instead.

Next Steps Fund
The Next Steps Fund provides students with financial support regarding mental health services. The Next Steps Fund will pay for four initial visits with a community therapist. After these four visits, the student will pay for ongoing sessions independently or with their health insurance

To get started, first complete the initial screening with CAPS and mention interest in the Next Steps Fund due to financial need

Afterwards, a CAPS Care Manager will reach out to schedule a follow-up meeting to discuss important information and documents
